Things to Do While in York

The York Castle

Isolated on a raised hill, the York castle holds historical information from as early as the 13th century. Inside the great walls of the castle are a number of law courts, living quarters, and grim dungeons where prisoners were held. These prisons hold the century old cries of the Jewish men and women held captive inside during the anti-Semitic wars in Europe.

The York Dungeons

Contrary to its name, this is more of a theatrical setting with live shows performed by local talents. The stage is well designed and even features effects to give life to the many plays held there. The Minster

Do you fancy medieval architecture? The York Minster is just the right place to be with your friends. It is the main cathedral of York, featuring English gothic architectural design on the outside and ample use of the post-gothic Perpendicular style on the interior. There is plenty to learn about the religious background of York from the time the church was started, that is 637AD. If you aren’t interested in the history, then the architecture is right there to marvel at as it glistened in the warm sunlight of the English summers.

York Guildhall and Mansion House

These two attractions are right next to each other, so how about killing two birds with one stone? The Guildhall is one of the many halls in York and this one was designed to be a rendezvous point for the early Guilds. The current architecture is however not the original one; the Hall suffered massive damage after an air raid that occurred in 1942. The stone walls survived the damage though, and were used as foundation to rebuild the Hall once more.
